SWIM-A-THON

Swim-A-Thon Format – Change this year!

This year, Trish would like to have 2 separate events (a team relay, and the standard individual swim a thon) so that we can have the best of all worlds.

  • Friday, March 1st, from 5-7pm swimmers will come together at the pool to swim a relay/team building event.
  • Saturday, March 2nd from 6:30-8:30am is the usual 200 lengths (5K) or 2 hours whichever comes first. Each swimmer will need a counter- let Trish know if your swimmer does NOT have someone to attend to count their lengths.
    • Competitive swimmers are encouraged to attend both events (Junior and above are expected to participate in both)  and we are inviting ITC swimmers to join us for the Friday relay event and Masters the Saturday event.  (NORAC will still be running 2 swim school classes Friday night in lane 6 from 5:15-6 and 6:15 to 7).
  • ACTION:  Please indicate on this google  document which events your swimmer is attending and indicate if you can help out with snacks/drinks for either event to help with our planning. Families earn 20 points per day for providing food/drink items.
  • Prizes: For every $25 raised the swimmer is put into a draw to win $5 Timmies card. eg: raise $50 and your swimmers name is in the draw twice. We will be doing this draw every Thursday! More info on Swim Canada prizes coming soon!
  • Here is a link to a document explaining what items swimmers need to prepare for the event – swim-a-thon checklist

Set up your Fundraising Page ASAP!

  • The goal for the club is to raise $10,000 – If each swimmer raises just $250 then we will easily meet our goal.
  • To make this fundraiser as easy as possible for every family there is an online system where you create an account for your swimmer and then simply advertise the link to family and friends asking for donations.
  • ACTION:  Create an online account following these steps:
    • Go to https://donate.swimming.ca/, Create and Verify your account
    • Click on the red banner that says Create Your First Fundraising Page!
    • Next enter title name – easy one is Swim-a-Thon 2024 – Child’s First and Last name
    • Next enter a description – An example is:

“Welcome to my fundraising page! I’m XXX / or we are the XXX family, and I/we love swimming.  My/our goal is to raise $250.

I am very proud to be a member of the NORAC swim club, and we are raising funds to help supplement the operating costs of our competitive swim club, including pool fees, dryland fees, equipment, and training costs!  Donations of any size are greatly appreciated!

I will be taking part in a 2h swimming relay with my teammates on Friday March 1st and/or swimming 5km or 2h (whichever I achieve first) on Saturday March 2nd.  My Swim-a-Thon goal is to swim the 5km distance (200 laps of the Jack Burger pool) in under XXX OR is to finish.

Your support would mean a lot to me and the entire swimming community. Thank you for your consideration and generosity!”

  • Then on the next page you enter your fundraising goal – I put $250 but the higher you wish to try to achieve please do so!
  • Then put in your province “Ontario” and your swim club – type NORAC and the complete club name will populate.
  • Lastly you choose the basic page design then your account is complete.
  • It gives you an option to share the link to your social media. You can also copy the link to send out emails to your contacts as well. I suggest you add a photo or video here of your swimmer. People give to people, the more personal the better! Add in a picture or video of your swimmer explaining to their friends and family what NORAC and swimming means to them.

Thank you for your support of NORAC.

Sincerely,

Jenni Frenke and the NORAC Board of Directors
