NORAC News Feed
We will be attending the 2019 Mallards Winter LC Winter Invitational Jan 19-20th. This is our first opportunity to swim Long Course this season. For those of you who don’t know, this is in a 50 metre pool so it is quite challenging as there are not as many turns in each event. As the swimmers get older, more and more events will be in Long Course, so this is a great learning opportunity. The event will take place at the Markham Pan Am pool.
We will be attending the Saturday and Sunday only. 12 and under have timed finals, 13 and up will have finals for 100 events and 50 free on Saturday, all other events will be timed finals. Sunday will be timed finals for all events. We will swim 4 events per day and relays if possible.
The cost for this will be $50 per day. Please let me know by Friday December 22nd if your swimmer is attending and please send the meet fees to Annette by December 22nd as well.
Thank you for following the deadlines, it makes organizing these meets much better.

Parents please bring a snack to share with the rest of the swimmers. Swimmers, don’t forget to bring your Secret Santa gifts. If you aren’t going to the party, please bring your gift in this week to the pool, and give it to Trish or Sarah to bring to the party.
As I mentioned in my previous email, we will be accepting donations either monetary, gift cards or gifts for the Giving Tree. Find full details on the Giving Tree effort.

Michelle received several request yesterday for a NORAC winter toque. She spoke with Dave at Sommerville’s today and he can get one for us for $10. It will be a black toque with the NORAC “N” in a circle. Not the full logo as it’s too big. If you’re interested in ordering one, email Michelle at firstname.lastname@example.org before Friday and send payment to me, Annette, by etransfer.
As Annette mentioned yesterday, we have had a brilliant idea from one of our swim parents (one who is not a competitive swimmer by the way!) – to have a fun post-meet Parents event on Sunday (~2:00pm).
The event will be:
- 50m with 2 people always touching each other (1 person holds other person’s ankles, or one ankle tethered to the other, or. 2 wrists, or… must stay attached – can use whatever flotation desired). Can be 2 parents or 1 parent, 1 child. Preferably we have enough parents sign up that we can do it with only parents! If we get more than 16 parents signed up, we’ll put people on relays.
- Do NOT worry if you are not a strong swimmer! You can bring a life jacket, or use pool noodles or flutter boards or whatever! We’ll team stronger and weaker parents.
- There are 3 objectives:
- Have Fun! (Speedos, crazy caps and thongs welcome… never thought I’d write that)
- Raise $ for the Giving Tree – whatever donation you’d like.
- Show them some humility – that we aren’t as capable as they are in the water! (and, well, embarrass them!)
Please let me know if you’re interested by emailing me your name. Please also let me know your approx 50m free time swimming – if you have no idea, just let me know if you are a strong, moderate or weak swimmer.
Email is: email@example.com
Michelle will be available at the pool from 10:30-11:30 on Saturday and Sunday before our home meet to accept clothing orders. These orders have been promised to arrive before Christmas.
